The Brooklyn Book Festival, one of the nation’s premier annual gatherings of book lovers and publishing industry insiders, has selected David S. Mitchell as one of five up-and-coming debut novelists whose work is not to be missed. David will share the stage with rising stars Lara Elena Donnelly (Amberlough), Gabrielle Lucille Fuentes (The Sleeping World), Vanessa Hua (Deceit And Other Possibilities) and Ian Bassingthwaighte (Live From Cairo).
“I just wasn’t expecting this,” David said upon receiving word of his selection. “To be named alongside these brilliant novelists, and at such a major industry gathering, is almost overwhelming. I’m thrilled at the prospect that more people will get to know We Hold These Truths, and with luck, begin to rethink our politics and the way race is deployed throughout the political process to stymie progressive ideas and voices.”
This year’s Brooklyn Book Festival will be held September 11-17, in and around downtown Brooklyn, and will be headlined by this year’s recipient of the Best of Brooklyn Award, Colson Whitehead (The Underground Railroad).
